Mark Hafeman is an award winning, third generation artist who paints every day because he loves to create art. As an undergraduate at Georgetown University, Mark took several design and ceramic classes and later taught ceramics and art. His style is distinctly Californian as is much of his subject matter with the exception of his award winning flower compositions.
When creating on-site landscape paintings, he uses a unique method of doing an undercoating of acrylic on panel board. Then a layer of oil paint is added on top. This creates the depth of multiple layers that is useful in portraying water. If such work was done in a studio entirely with oil then each layer would have to dry prior to another layer being added. This unique method allows Mark to create pieces of art that look like studio pieces, but do them on location en Plein Air like the French Impressionists. Awards: (1) American Art Awards in multiple categories for multiple years; (2) Buenaventura Art Association—Award of Merit; (3)“Flight and Flow” exhibit Award of Merit; Cheyenne Arts—Purchase Award.
Mark is a member of the California Art Club and Treasurer of the Buenaventura Art Association. He was a BAA studio artist at the Ventura Harbor Gallery from 2014-2016. He has shown at numerous galleries in California including the Los Angeles Art Association and in Carmel as well as nationally in Louisiana, New Mexico, Wyoming, Minnesota and at the International Arts in Harmony Show.
