These original oil paintings are in the oil painting gallery. They begin with an acrylic undercoat that shows the field colors--the general colors of the objects in the paintings. When this is dry, oil paint is applied on top of the acrylic paint. The oil painting is done with a greater variety of colors showing highlights, midtones and darker tones. The ability to have an acrylic undercoat allows for me to complete plein air landscape paintings that have many characteristics of studio art. Subtle colors show forth from underneath the oil and allow for a depth of field. These original oil paints for sale have all been hand done by me personally.
Color is very important to me as an oil paintng artist. When creating original oil paintings, I follow the best practices of professional artists, but have a few unique methods that make my paintings individual and unique. One method is the use of acrylic paint as an undercoat. This allow for landscape paintings to have a great depth of field expecially when depicting water and sky. These fine art paintings are done plein air in the outdoors, yet they look like studio paintings.
